Conservation & Green Home workshops

Free workshops are available to discover how you can reduce your impact on the environment at home and in your lifestyle.
The Australian Conservation Foundation Green Home program and Transition Town Bell in postcode 3215 aim to help you reduce your environmental impact and take practical steps to save energy, source and grow local food and work with others to make your household and community more sustainable.

A light locally sourced meal will be available at the workshops.

Concentrated Solar Power – a FREE community forum

Concentrated Solar Power is one of the utility scale energy sources of the future. It includes solar thermal and concentrated photovoltaic systems.

Worldwide investment is already in the billions of Dollars. Come along to the EcoCentre Forum to learn more about this important technology. Presented by local expert Dane Muldoon from the Solar Guys, the seminar looks at the principles of Concentrated Solar Technology, how it can cover base load requirements and examines a range of systems in use around the world.

Changes in Environmental Law

On 1 January 2009 the single most far reaching changes to environmental management legislation in Queensland came into effect. The changes will affect the licensing and operation of every environmentally relevant activity (ERA) in Queensland.

This one day workshop will give participants an overview of recent changes to the Environmental Protection Act 1994 and the new Environmental Protection Regulation 2008.

The Latest Climate Science - consequences, risks and opportunities for Western Australia

This is an invitation to a special Environment Matters presentation, to hear the latest climate science and the opportunities and risks for Western Australia.

Ongoing scientific research on global greenhouse gas emissions is necessary to provide us with an understanding of what is happening to our climate and the challenges we face in dealing with the consequences of escalating global temperatures.

Presenters: Professor Jean Palutikof - Currently Director of the National Climate Change Adaptation Research Facility at Griffiths University. Dr Graeme Pearman – A national and international expert in research on increasing levels of carbon dioxide in the global atmosphere.

This forum is ideal for CCWA affiliates and supporters, those working or studying in climate change policy, advocacy and research areas and members of the community interested in learning more about the latest climate science implications for WA and Australia.

Biodiversity in our Backyard Photography Exhibtion

This exhibition features entries submitted in the 2009 Conservation Week Biodiversity in our Backyard Photography Competition. Entrants were asked to reflect WA's vast and unique biodiversity and portray the importance of biodiversity protection for the future.

10th WA Environment Festival - Winds of Change

The Festival is held in the naturally beautiful grounds (1.7ha) of Rockingham Environment Centre, a place of ‘natural encounters’, located opposite Australian Heritage Listed Lake Richmond in Peron.

There will be a wide range of activities, performances, eco-educational displays and events. Stalls and various performers provide entertainment throughout the weekend. This vibrant event provides excitement and stimulation, whilst presenting quality of life options.

Free hands-on activities for children can be found in the Try It Yourself section.
The ever popular wildlife presentations offer a chance to get up close to some of WA’s unique native animals, including reptiles, mammals and birds of prey.

FREE entry and nearby parking is available. Bus 551 stops right outside the door. This is a non smoking event, with BYO food and non alcoholic drinks or….purchase from vendors on site.
