A Fathers LoveFathers Day – It’s Almost Here! ‘By the time a man realizes that maybe his father was right, he usually has a son who thinks he is wrong’ And…isn’t it so true. A real and full appreciation of the role of Father is only fully grasped later in life. So let’s enjoy the precious moments in this special day and appreciate the full value of Dad!! Australia celebrates all Fathers on the first Sunday in September. This is the day when Dads are honoured by their children. On this day, those that love him are encouraged to fuss over him, spoil and pamper him. This is the day where his efforts, support, love and wisdom are acknowledged. The origins of Father’s Day is unclear but it’s been suggested that Mrs. John B. Dodd of Washington, first proposed the idea of a “father’s day” in 1909. Mrs Dodd wanted a special day to honor her father, William Smart. He was a civil war veteran widowed when his wife died in childbirth with their sixth child. Mr. Smart was then left to raise the newborn and his other five children by himself at a time when it was very unusual for Fathers to be so involved in their children’s upbringing. It was only after Mrs John B. Dodd herself became a mother that she realized the strength and selflessness her father had shown in raising his children as a single parent. So, Father’s day was born in memory and from gratitude by a daughter who thought that her father and all good fathers should be honoured with a special day just like we honour our mothers on Mother's Day. A tradition has developed where on this day Fathers are made to feel special, showered with gifts, taken to dinner or otherwise. Father’s Day has become the day to honour your father and those other father figures in your life. It is our opportunity to Celebrate Dad.
