The Four Pillars of Destiny is a branch of Chinese metaphysics which enables the understanding of human behaviour and luck cycles through a person's birthdate. It helps us comprehend ourselves and other people, providing deep insights into our character. It also enables us to appreciate the nature of the problems we are facing and is a very useful reference tool in our decision making process. In this way it gives us a better understanding of appropriate timing for taking risks or choosing new directions in life. Its importance should not be underestimated.

We believe that there are 5 major influences in ones life. The first and most influential is Destiny. The second is Luck, TheThird Feng Shui itself – it is also the first of the controllable influences. The Fourth is Philanthropy and the fifth Education and/or Wisdom.

For the skilled practitioner the Four Pillars of Destiny allows an accurate means of evaluating our background, character, talents, career potential, predisposition to health issues and relationships with others. It then provides us, or an inquiring parent with an amazing resource that can be used to build on our natural talents and attitude, then understand and also work with the negatives present. This information provides an abundance of useful tools assisting us to make better choices, better decisions and all in all improve our quality of life. In other words; to be forewarned is to be forearmed.

So what exactly are the four pillars? They are constructed from our birth data, which is the year, month, day and time of birth. Each of these time components are expressed by two Chinese characters, one atop the other to form pillars, hence the name 'Four Pillars of Destiny'.

How can this then be interpreted? This technique is based on the belief that, since the 5 basic elements represent the universal order and its influences, so human destiny must also be governed by the change and interaction of these elements. The five elements – those same elements which form the basis of Feng Shui and other areas of Chinese Metaphysics; are capable of a dynamic interaction which is the force behind life, activity and change. By knowing the rules and patterns of change we can thus plot how the elements composing our lives react and alter over time.

The Five Elements should not be interpreted in the narrow sense of their physical attributes but rather they should be regarded as symbols of 5 fundamental forces. As the Chinese calendar can express a moment in time in terms of The Five Elements, the moment of a person's birth can be translated into a combination of elements. This grouping or configuration of elements, coupled with the meanings attributed to each of them, and the interpretation of the patterns of change, is believed to symbolize the composition of a person's destiny. In other words, if we know our birth data and express it as represented by the Chinese calendar, we will get a bundle of elements displaying the composition of our destiny.

Another complementary discipline to Feng Shui is the I Ching or Book of Changes, an ancient and powerful form of Divination, highly regarded as one of the most accurate and important forecasting systems still used today. This technique accurately reveals the underlying information on complex situations and is regarded as an indispensable metaphysical tool for forecasting and decision making.

Whilst Feng Shui has enjoyed much recent popularity in the West, the I Ching is most probably the first form of Chinese Metaphysics introduced into the Western world.

The I Ching is based on a series of symbols called Trigrams and Hexagrams. These are symbols in either continuous or broken lines reflecting the concept of duality existing within the universe through Yin and Yang. In consulting the oracle, having a question in mind you cast 3 coins six times resulting in a Hexagram. The answer to the question is then interpreted providing us with guidelines on how to approach the particular issue at hand.
